Tell me about your Kindergarten and Junior Kindergarten
The maximum size of our Junior Kindergarten/Kindergarten class is 15 students. Miss Terri is a state licensed Kindergarten teacher who has taught at Messiah for over 35 years. Along with her assistant, Miss Rose, the student/staff ratio falls well below most Kindergarten classes, offering personal attention to each child's abilities and potential. In addition to a competitive Kindergarten curriculum, the children partake in all that Messiah offers, including Spanish class and Christian education activities. District 64 provides on-site speech classes to qualifying Kindergarten students, as well.
The Kindergarten /Junior Kindergarten class is a 5 day program from 9am-noon with extended hours available. Hot lunch is served at noon and an enrichment period follows until 1:30. Students take advantage of available full-day care available between 6:30am and 5:30pm. Parents feel most comfortable knowing that their children are receiving a quality education and a healthy, safe environment without the need for additional transportation or caregivers.

Do the children need to attend the same days each week?
Yes, we offer a wide range of day and time schedules from which to select. Families contract for the days and hours that their child will be attending. They must stay consistent with the same 2, 3, 4, or 5 days they choose when registering. Extra time and/or days may be added throughout the year and contracts can be rewritten, if space allows.

Do the children need to be potty trained?
Yes, they may wear cloth training pants, but no pull-ups or diapers.

Do we need to be Lutheran to attend Messiah CCC?
No. We are a Christian based school open to all. Our school's Christian education is presented at a child's level of understanding. We have a 15 minute, very interactive, Wednesday morning chapel service with our pastor which includes Bible stories, prayer and song. We pray before our snacks and lunch and we incorporate Christian education and music in our curriculum.

What do you teach the children on a daily basis?
Each teacher has a classroom curriculum that she follows for the school year. Lesson plans include age appropriate activities that support our philosophy of providing a nurturing environment where individual physical, emotional, cognitive, social and spiritual growth of each child is encouraged and celebrated. Included in our weekly classroom activities are chapel, music, Bible visits from our pastor and Spanish. Calendars of monthly plans for each classroom can be found on this website.

Do you offer any extra programs?
-Our 'extra' programs include a dance/movement class and Kindermusik. The dance/movement class with Miss Pat is available on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 11:15-noon. The class is available as an extra curricular activity (additional charge) and includes beginning dance and movement activities. It is popular with boys and girls alike. The children hold two performances during the year. At Christmas, they perform 'The Peanutcracker' and in May they conclude their class with a program on the stage at LGH/Nessett. Parents and classmates are invited to view both shows. Miss Pat has taught this class at Messiah over 15 years.

Do you have an outdoor area?
Yes. Messiah has a VERY large, fenced area for outdoor activities. We have 2 well-equipped playground areas with climbing equipment, grassy areas for running and group games, a large sandbox and a paved area for trikes and bikes. Additionally, we have a patio with seating for outdoor eating and reading and many gardens for summer planting.
